Nearly 150 million VND has been raised by WASS students from all 5 campuses of the Western Australia International School system selling homemade products, study projects and souvenirs.  The WASS Monthly Market Fair 2019 took place at all 5 campuses of WASS and garnered enthusiastic and generous support from parents and students for its humanitarian cause.

“It does not matter how much you give but it is important how much love you share. Because when giving love, we will receive a smile, we will realize the happiness being spread, we will find warm hearts when our life is full of love. ”

With these heartfelt values in mind, on October 4, 2019, The Western Australian International School System organized a charity event called “Love Giving Fair.” This activity is part of our “For the community” program we pursue to fulfill our motto of “Connecting heart.”

Hoping to give the students a meaning experience at the market, our schoolteachers dedicated themselves to creating unit stores with many different wares, displayed in the middle of the schoolyard. Each store was beautifully decorated, with handmade products, second-hand stalls, agricultural products, and self-made drinks made by the WASS community.

The most special feature of the Fair was that everything looked so tiny: from souvenirs and vouchers with a small value of 20,000 VND, to adorable little buyers (our students). The stores were very simple with just a table and a canvas – but so much fun! There was a bustling atmosphere, with the students crying their wares and their customers marveling at the merchandise. Because at least 70% of the money raised goes to charity, a spirit of generosity prevailed, and happiness was spread with love and warmth to unlucky lives.

The WASS Monthly Market Fair has ended! It was hard work, but it was also fun and meaningful – and its spirit of generosity remains with our teachers at WASS. Hopefully, parents and students will join us again in this spirit of love and giving at our market Fair next month.

“Oh, come to WASS

Let’s view the green market this weekend

WASSers filled the stores

Volunteering is the action of a loving human being”

The WASS Monthly Market Fair has long been a regular project for the teachers and students at WASS Kindergarten. This project, named “For the Community,” has promoted humanitarianism, bringing people together, and sharing the kindness of the little WASSers to the less fortunate.  The full revenues of the Fair will be donated to charity in the school’s community.

From time to time, teachers and WASS Kindergarten students have prepared food and drinks by themselves and sold them at stores that they themselves decorated with their teachers. “It’s was fun and meaningful,” the WASS Kindergarten students idyllically and lovingly said when asked about the WASS Monthly Market Fair.

To give the little WASSers an experience in the most realistic and vivid space, not only did WASS teachers decorate the stores with posters, they also enhanced the bustling atmosphere by drawing beautiful scenery of the countryside to decorate the market.

The WASS Monthly Market Fair not only teaches WASSers how to share love to everyone, but also teaches us how to protect the environment through the “Say No to Plastic Bag” campaign. The bundles of vegetables wrapped in banana leaves looked lovely, and the food and drinks were packed in paper bags.  Glass bottles were used instead of plastic bottles.

Through this activity, we hope to spread the love of teachers and students of WASS Kindergarten to everyone in the community  and help physically and mentally improve every young child’s soul.

There were a lot of Fairs in September – weekend markets, fun markets, fashion markets.  But for me, the best fair was recently held by our school. This market is called “Love giving fair”.

That day, everyone was very excited to participate. At the fair there were many souvenirs, street foods and pictures. I saw a video on the school’s Facebook page about my friends visit to the outback area. When they went to the village, I saw that there were so many people who were less fortunate than our students at school. Perhaps they do not have nice clothes, do not eat well, and do not have opportunities to go to school like other students, but they always have smiles on their faces.

WASS Monthly Market Fair has its own meaning. For me this fair is very interesting because it brings out everyone’s humanitarianism.  After this fair, I hope that our school can spread the spirit of sharing and love to everyone.

The motherland is where we were born, and where the toddlers take their first steps. This place will always be associated with my family with the innocence of childhood. “Motherland is as sweet as sugar”, is the poem of the poet Do Trung Quan, which is very meaningful in our minds. There are many peaceful rustic features of the countryside: the beauty of country road. And in that childhood picture, we can see the beloved country markets.

Among the memories of the beloved countryside, most indelible is the image of us chasing after our childhood when we go to the rural market. The country fair is an opportunity for students to relive the exchanges and meetings they remember from their hometowns. The diverse and plentiful items were sold neatly in each store very neatly.  All kinds of vegetables, flowers, fruits and foods fully converged here. We talked and enjoyed ourselves, asking people to buy and sell, recreating the atmosphere of the countryside market and transforming the city into a beautiful landscape. The bustling sounds of life differed from the school’s normal calm.

Stores that sold souvenirs, cactus ornamental pots probably attracted the most people. People happily sat down to eat food and happily admired the country presents. Those things brought different people closer to one another. We were in the heart of the homeland, where honesty, intimacy and simplicity prevail, and felt far away from the city’s complex lifestyle.

Each store tried to advertise, inviting other classes to support them. The items were very eye-catching and attractive to the buyers who each wore a cheerful, shinning face.

Coming to the “countryside market”, we all felt those meaningful memories. What could be a more interesting start to every month? Even though the time is limited, students could enjoy the atmosphere of a crowded fair. Another special thing is that the profits of the market fair will be dedicated to help unlucky children.

The fair is operated not only for us to have fun, but also to give a meaningful gift to many poor children. This activity reminds me of the proverb for positive thinking: to live is to be concerned and to share, giving to people around us the good things.   “Living is giving, not just receiving”. Helping others, bringing happiness to others is the way to beautify our souls. Just remember, when we are happy, there are still so many unlucky people facing hard situations. But if you know how to give love, you can cure an insensitive illness for yourself, as “those poor in body are easier to cure than those poor in soul.” Do not hesitate to give love, it does not go away, but reciprocates.  To give love is to receive love. We give others our goodness and we receive happiness in our souls. That’s why the fair was organized, both for us to experience it and to help others.

In short, the WASS Monthly Market Fair is a special activity that helps students to learn how to spread love. I feel very grateful when living in this world. Life has given me so many wonderful things. I understand that if we all share and love, this world will no longer have to much suffering and unhappiness but only happiness and joy. Please take four verses from To Huu “Goodbye” poem as my conclusion:

“Goodbye dearest life

A few verses left, a handful of ash

Poetry sent to you, ash fertilized the soil

Life is giving and death is giving. ”

——————–

I would like to express my gratitude to the school management for conceiving such a beautiful concept and empowering the students to make the WASS Monthly Market Fair into such a big success. We worked incredibly hard to create products that we could bring to the market and sell.

We have the opportunity to carry out a noble mission in this fair – that is “Project for the loving heart”. The success of this event has empowered us to organize many more similar events at school.

This is a project which required skill and planning as we collaborated in the allocation of resources and determined the products that would be made in order to obtain the desired outcome. But when we summed up the number of products we sold at the end of the session, we were very surprised because we were so successful.

Giving to good causes is a wonderful thing. It strengthens my personal values, shows the value of generosity and kindness. Hopefully my actions will encourages friends and family to do the same. We need more of these events as it also increases the level of collaboration and teamwork in every class.

I hope to see you all at the next Village Fair. Thank you.
