The Western Australian International School System (WASS) is diligently engaged in the final preparations for extending a warm welcome to the distinguished representatives from the Council of International Schools (CIS) in November of this year.

In its capacity as a member institution of the Council of International Schools (CIS), WASS is actively engaged in the preparatory evaluation process to ascertain the comprehensive adherence of the school’s management to the quality standards advocated by CIS. This forthcoming visit holds profound significance and serves as a pivotal factor in driving enhancements within WASS during the forthcoming months and years, thereby propelling the institution towards the subsequent phases aimed at securing full accreditation.

Overview about CIS

The Council of International Schools (CIS) stands as the foremost authority in accrediting and recognizing schools that adhere to rigorous international standards, ensuring their reliability and excellence. Established in 1965, CIS was founded with the mission of evaluating international schools and upholding educational quality within its member institutions. Today, CIS boasts a global community of over 1,400 institutional members, encompassing more than 740 schools across 122 countries. As a leader in the field, CIS fosters a collaborative network of international schools and higher educational institutions dedicated to developing effective practices, cultivating interculturally competent global citizens.

Requirements for CIS Members

Schools seeking CIS membership demonstrate a steadfast commitment to delivering top-tier international education, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and global citizenship capabilities.

CIS conducts a comprehensive evaluation process, encompassing eight areas with 45 standards, ensuring the excellence of all school members.

In December 2021, WASS achieved full membership status, after successfully completing a rigorous evaluation process and meeting CIS Accreditation Standards across the following key domains:

  • School Purpose and Direction
  • Governance, Leadership, and Ownership
  • The Curriculum
  • Teaching and Assessing for Learning
  • Student Well-Being
  • Staffing
  • Premises & Facilities
  • Community & Home Partnerships

WASS Strives to Affirm Outstanding Quality from CIS Visit

From November 27 to November 30, 2023, CIS representatives will conduct an on-site evaluation at WASS to assess our ongoing activities. This evaluation is pivotal in reaffirming our commitment to academic excellence and compliance with CIS standards and regulations.

WASS will receive invaluable feedback and recommendations from CIS to facilitate continuous improvement and prepare for the subsequent self-evaluation phase. By consistently meeting CIS requirements for academic programs, facilities, and management capabilities, WASS aims to attain full accreditation from the Council of International Schools.

Our entire WASS community is dedicated to achieving recognition as a leading international educational institution, nurturing students to become integrity-driven global citizens who contribute positively to society in today’s globalized world.

Stay tuned for updates on the Council of International Schools’ visit in our upcoming posts.
