How parents can help students review their lesson and prepare for their exams?
25.04.2019
Exam time is fast approaching. To adequately prepare for the final exams, students should make sure that they are keeping up with their homework and that they are spending a sufficient amount of time reviewing at home. To assist your child in this exam, refer to the following suggestions:
- Look at student planners, notebooks and textbooks to see what they have studied in this last term. From there, you can remind your child to study the lesson appropriately for the exam subjects.
- Encourage children to get enough rest, especially before the exam. If students stay up all night before the exam and cram, they will be exhausted on the day of the exam. They will feel nervous and won’t be able to confidently answer the questions asked of them.
- Help children organize their study time throughout each week. Focus on one or two subjects each night. Encouraging small group and independent studying can also be beneficial to their exam preparations.
- Children all learn and review in different ways. Some students can remember by writing things down or by drawing diagrams. Others may benefit from flash cards, or apps like Quizlet. Some may review best by recording themselves explaining key concepts and then listening to it. For oral learners, they can practice by explaining what they have learned to a partner.
- Finally, encourage children to remain calm while writing their exams and to simply try their best.
Hopefully with these small suggestions, parents can help their children to revise while at home and successfully complete the upcoming semester 2 exams.
