April has marked numerous meaningful activities within the Western Australian International School System with a series of vibrant Spirit Days.

Starting on April 12, 2024, Pink Day was held with enthusiasm by young WASSers who covered their campuses in pink, representing their steadfast determination against school violence. Following this was the “Anything But a Backpack Day” event, which was held on April 17, 2024, for Primary and Secondary students. Here, WASSers created “1-0-2” bags from simple items to hold books and school supplies when going to school.

1. Pink Day – Promoting a School Environment Free of Violence

Pink Day, with the theme “Day of Pink – Make Bullying Extinct,” was held at WASS Kindergarten on April 12, 2024.

The little WASSers not only wore pink outfits to demonstrate solidarity but also participated in decorating the backdrop “Acts of Loving Kindness,” creating the message “Bullying Is Not Cool.” They also recognized the “Should do” or “Should not do” actions through the “Better Together” activity and analyzed actual scenarios on school violence prevention through videos based on real-life situations.

With each pink outfit worn by our little WASSers on this special day, WASS Kindergarten has contributed 10,000 VND to the “Empower the Next Generation” Community Fund to continue carrying out the noble mission of the main project, “Yen Bai, For a Brighter Tomorrow.” Following this event, the WASS Kindergarten community has collectively raised a total of 4,590,000 VND.

In addition to its significance, the tangible contributions demonstrated the strength of solidarity and compassion among little WASSers.

2. Anything But a Backpack Day – WASSers Freely Showcased Their Creativity and Expressed Their Individuality

On April 17, 2024, the Primary and Secondary WASSers participated in “Anything But a Backpack Day” – an event organized by the School and the Student Council.

Responding to this unique festival, WASSers took advantage of all surrounding items, from cartons, paper bags, and suitcases to cake boxes, pots, baskets, and pillowcases, to carry their books instead of the usual school bags.

With simple yet creative ideas, they created a vibrant day of learning, showcasing their distinct personalities. Moreover, it was an opportunity for them to express empathy and share a spirit of resilience with less fortunate peers who may not have the means to bring backpacks and school supplies to school.

Both Spirit Days in April at the Western Australian International School System provided opportunities for the WASS community to demonstrate unity, spreading a humanitarian message about compassion and boldly expressing their views on global issues.

The School believes that under the shared roof of WASS, the positive spirit of these Spirit Days would be preserved and transform the students’ school lives into a perfect launching pad for them to become outstanding global citizens in the future.
