In order to help teachers exploit multi-faceted perspectives on new forms of education, new educational criteria in the difficult context of reality, as well as share online classroom methods with each other to support students with different learning needs, WASS organized the “Welcoming New School Year” contest. The contest has attracted a lot of participation from teachers, as well as received a lot of votes from students and parents.
Within a few days of the contest, more than 100 messages and ideas for the topic “Embrace Flexibility and Innovation” were sent to WASS by teachers. In the first year, having to attend the online opening ceremony and teach the first lessons through the computer screen, the teachers all have their own unique feelings. Just as students are trying very hard to adapt to a new form of learning, all teachers in the Western Australian School System are working every day to improve and enhance appropriate teaching methods. The submissions and videos sent to the WASS inbox are filled with thoughts of teachers who love their job, every day still goes to class, give enthusiastic lectures, and after school spend hours to find new ways to teach more optimally but still ensure to transmit knowledge to the students. The “Welcoming New school year Contest” requires teachers to think, be curious, ask questions, and challenge their creativity to solve problems. It also allows teachers to express their understanding in many different ways, expressing their faith and hope in an educational environment with colorful, multifaceted experiences.
Through the contest, the teachers expressed their concerns and thoughts about the form of online teaching and learning during the epidemic season. Although each submission has different thoughts, they were all light – up with the same passion, the same love for education and are ready to challenge themselves to bring solid knowledge to students – the future owners of the world. The submissions also received a lot of love and support from parents and students when they were posted on the fanpage of WASS. This is a positive signal when parents and students are also very interested in this form of education using technology.
On the road to success, there will always be challenges. However, WASS believes that these small difficulties will not stop our community from continuing to inspire each other, having an exciting start to a much-awaited journey ahead.
