The Practical Learning Field Trips in February provided WASSers across all year levels with enriching, exciting, and memorable experiences.
In addition to excellent academic programs, WASS also offers a variety of extracurricular activities and practical learning field trips, contributing to the comprehensive development of students. These experiences provide valuable opportunities for WASSers to expand their knowledge, enhance essential skills, and gain hands-on learning experiences by observing, researching, and exploring real-world phenomena. Beyond reinforcing classroom lessons and discovering the vast world around them, Field Trips also serve as precious moments for students to bond with their peers, share experiences, and create unforgettable memories.
1. A Journey to Discover the Cultural Heritage of Vietnam
Kicking off the Practical Learning Activities in Semester 2, our students in Years 4 and 5 embarked on a memorable journey with many meaningful lessons at the Ao Dai Museum. This trip allowed WASSers to explore the nation’s traditional values and cultural essence. Through this experience, they gained valuable knowledge about national identity while fostering a sense of pride and appreciation for the Ao Dai – a cultural symbol of Vietnamese beauty.
Additionally, students had the opportunity to showcase their creativity by designing their own Ao Dai and traditional conical hats. Their originality, craftsmanship, and unique ideas came together to create truly special pieces. Hopefully, this journey has inspired students to appreciate and preserve the cultural heritage of Vietnam.
2. Immersing in Art and Creativity
Continuing the Practical Learning Field Trips in February, WASSers in Year 6 had the opportunity to visit the Quang San Art Museum. With an artistic atmosphere and a collection of over 1,500 artworks, the museum provided students with deeper insights into Vietnam’s Impressionism and Post-Impressionism movements. They also had the chance to observe a diverse range of artworks, from classical paintings to contemporary masterpieces, allowing them to appreciate how art has evolved throughout history.
This enriching field trip not only expanded their artistic knowledge but also nurtured their passion for creativity and deepened their understanding of cultural values.
3. An Adventure into the Fascinating World of Nature
The Practical Learning Field Trips concluded with an exciting adventure for Years 1, 2, and 3 students at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Here, WASSers immersed themselves in lush greenery, observed various animal species, and explored the wonders of nature. Stepping into the role of young explorers, students ventured through the “Kingdom of Wildlife” in small groups, learning about the behaviors and habitats of fascinating creatures such as capybaras, hippos, Bengal tigers, elephants, and white lions.
Beyond simply observing, students also engaged in meaningful discussions about wildlife conservation by answering thought-provoking questions such as “If you were a zoo manager, what would you do to make animals feel happier?” By engaging in these discussions, WASSers not only developed their observation and analytical skills but also cultivated a passion for nature and a heightened awareness of wildlife protection.
