Recently, WASSers of IBDP experienced an interesting field trip to Can Gio mangrove for a project in IB Biology. Not just a trip to a place with fresh air, typical plants, WASSers have learned and discovered new knowledge during this trip.

The theoretical content of Biology in the classroom has been upgraded, demonstrated in a practical way when students are allowed to be “smeared with mud” to discover soil samples by themselves, and collect different species of plants grown in the mangrove. WASSers took notes, collected data, and analyzed the elements in the ecosystem.

According to the IB Mission, students will have a broad academic background, exploratory thinking, and research and analysis skills through these field trips, which will be a huge advantage for their journeys at universities.

IB Students are encouraged to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners.

At WASS, learning field trips are an integral part of all subjects. Students get to step outside of the classrooms through the trips and apply all the skills and theories to real-life situations.

The recent trip to Can Gio mangrove WASSers also learned more about human influences on environmental aspects such as plants, soil, and water resources. From there, they form a positive attitude and lifestyle to contribute to the protection and preservation of the natural environment
