After leaving her beloved WASS after 7 years, Nguyen Thi Hai Ngoc, an alumna of WASS, is now a sophomore majoring in Economic Law at the University of Economics and Law (UEL). She still considers her time at WASS a crucial stepping stone that gave her the confidence to pursue her dreams.

Let’s hear Hai Ngoc’s honest reflections on her journey of “Growth – Initiative – Connection” at WASS and how it became a launching pad for her plans.

Looking back at 7 Years at WASS, what stands out the most for you?

“After a year away from my beloved WASS, I’ve had the opportunity to experience a new environment, take part in student union activities, and try out my very first part-time jobs. Each experience has brought me valuable real-life lessons. Looking back on my 7-year journey at WASS and the path I’m pursuing now, I realize that WASS has been the solid foundation that gave me the confidence to step into university life. From competitions and after-school activities to an open and engaging learning environment, WASS has helped me develop a proactive mindset, a sense of responsibility, and the readiness to embrace every challenge.”

If you had to choose 3 words to describe WASS, which would you pick?

“I would choose: Growth – Proactivity – Connection.

Growth, because WASS not only taught me knowledge but also helped me understand myself, make decisions, and take responsibility for them.

Proactivity, as the learning environment at WASS always encourages students to explore, participate in activities, and develop soft skills and critical thinking – all of which have been incredibly helpful to me in university.

Connection, because WASS truly feels like a second home, where I have dedicated teachers who listen and support us, and, most importantly, wonderful friends.”

Can you share a memorable experience with your teachers that still stands out?

“One of my most memorable experiences was the inspiring lessons with my teachers. I still remember Mr. Minh Duong, my Year 12 Homeroom Teacher, who always created an open and friendly classroom atmosphere. He was also the one who gave me the advice and encouragement I needed to confidently pursue my dream of attending the UEL. Ms. Kieu Lanh, my Year 11 Homeroom Teacher, always encouraged and listened to us, and Ms. Thai Phuong, my Year 10 Homeroom Teacher, sparked my interest in Biology. Besides them, many other teachers helped me build a solid knowledge foundation and a positive attitude toward learning.

To this day, I keep in touch with both my teachers and friends. Even though we’ve taken different paths, we continue to support and share with one another. This has reinforced my belief that a good learning environment nurtures good people, builds strong and lasting friendships, and WASS is exactly such a place.”

You’re currently majoring in Economic Law. Did WASS play a role in helping you discover this passion?

“Beyond academics, WASS was where I discovered and developed my passion for social interaction and communication. Through presentations, debate competitions, and opportunities to represent students during parent visits, I realized my love for analyzing, defending perspectives, and exploring legal issues. These experiences greatly influenced my choice of major and also sparked my interest in the fields of education and communication.”

As WASS celebrates its 15th anniversary, do you have a message for the School and current WASSers?

“On the 15th anniversary of WASS, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the School for being part of my journey through the most memorable years of my student life.

To all current WASSers, be proactive, don’t be afraid to try new things, and believe in your own abilities. Every experience carries value if you’re open to learning from it. As one of my favorite quotes says, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela.”

The story of Nguyen Thi Hai Ngọc, a proud WASS alumna, may have reached its final page at school, but her journey toward her dreams is still unfolding with promise. WASS wishes her continued success and passion as she carries forward the values nurtured under its beloved roof.
