In the heart of every WASSer, there is a “silent figure” who quietly inspires, supports, and walks alongside them on their learning journey. This could be their caring mother, a dedicated teacher, or a trusted family member who always encourages them.
On the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20), let’s hear the heartfelt stories of these special people – the “sparks” who have ignited knowledge and nurtured young minds, helping students become better versions of themselves every day.
WASSer Doan Diep Anh expresses deep gratitude to her mother: “The person who has inspired my love for learning and my perseverance is no one else but my mother, a humble yet remarkable teacher. I am proud that she not only teaches students and me knowledge but also shows them how to live kindly, love genuinely, and keep striving.
Once, I was upset about a low test score, and instead of scolding me, my mother said, “What matters is not that you fall, but whether you dare to get back up.” This phrase has stayed with me throughout my school years, giving me motivation to keep moving forward.
On this Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, I sincerely thank my mother, the best mother and teacher in my life, and all teachers in Vietnam.”

With similar warmth from family, WASSer Ha Vo Mai Khanh finds her inspiration in her older sister, 12 years her senior and currently a third-year university student in the Netherlands: “Since I was little, when our parents were busy with work, my sister always spent time with my twin and me. As I grew older, beyond playing games, she gradually guided me into the world of books. Her bookshelf was filled with a variety of genres – meaningful gifts from our parents – and now I am lucky to inherit this precious treasure.

Even though she is not physically here, I call her almost every evening to share stories from school. My sister is not only someone I deeply love but also my “expert” for learning questions. I admire her, love her, and strive to study as hard as she does.”

Besides, teachers at school are also an endless source of inspiration for many students. WASSer Ho Xuan Vu shares about his science teacher, Mr. Jakub Pucek, who sparked his passion for astronomy: “A life quote from Mr. Jakub Pucek that I will never forget is: “To the universe, our history is just a small pop, but that is no reason to fear or stop trying.”
He guided me in exploring the mysteries of the universe – from how stars are formed, to Aboriginal astronomy, and the wonders of the stars. That excitement motivated me to complete my astronomy project, “The Life Cycle of a Star”, entirely on my own, as a way to show my effort and love for science that he inspired in me.”

Equally heartfelt, WASSer Tran Le Khanh My expresses her admiration for Ms. Quan Thi Yen Oanh, her gentle and dedicated Homeroom Teacher: “The person I have always admired, respected, and been most impressed by is Ms. Oanh.

Her teaching voice captivates the whole class, and she patiently corrects each student’s work while gently pointing out mistakes. To me, she is not only a guide on the path of knowledge but also a second mother who loves and cares for my friends and me. I still remember when I was sick, she checked on me, and when I scored low on the midterm, she didn’t scold me but said, “It’s okay, try harder next time”. Her encouragement motivated me to study harder. I am deeply grateful to her and promise to study diligently and develop myself to be worthy of being her student.”
