The School Year Exhibition 2023 – 2024: Unveiling Success
29.03.2024

Mr. Gustavo Páez, Principal of the International Programs at the Western Australian International School System (WASS), shared the information about the School Year Exhibition.

In reference to our macro event “the highlight of the year”, we invite the entire WASS community to explore and witness the progress, development, and skills that students make throughout the year, through the different subject approaches involved in the Western Australian learning tradition, especially the Project-based Learning method.

The reason for choosing this methodology is to generate an inclusive strategy taking into account the different learning styles and student engagement. Project-based Learning celebrates your child as the unique and capable person they are. Studies show that this method improves student test scores, attendance, and classroom engagement.

I share with you this explanation about the methodology to be applied at WASS according to the article “What Is Project-based Learning?” by Pear Tree School.

Project-based Learning, or PBL, is a method of teaching implemented by numerous schools.  In this method of education, students engage in real-world projects which have personal significance to the students.

In a Project-based Learning curriculum, students work on a project for a longer period of time. This could be as short as one week, or as long as a semester.

The project asks the student to solve a real-world problem or answer a complex question. After completion, students show their knowledge and skills in a public presentation.

This innovative method of education has unique benefits for today’s students. It capitalizes on 21st-century skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

A Project-based Learning curriculum focuses on open-ended questions, challenges, and problems.

The difference with PBL is that students have a choice in what they learn. The opportunity to make choices helps develop good academic habits. It also fosters a lifelong love of learning.
