Duong Thien An, an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) alumna, is now pursuing her journey in New York (U.S.) – one that began at WASS. Here, she not only gained academic knowledge but was also encouraged to explore herself, step out of her comfort zone, and grow within an inspiring learning environment.

Once a reserved student, Thien An gradually built her confidence through various academic and extracurricular experiences at WASS. From the Year 12 musical project to her journey at Fordham University, each milestone reflects her growth and continuous effort.

Let’s hear her reflections on this meaningful chapter:

“One of my most memorable experiences was our Year 12 musical project, where the whole class came together to produce a performance. It was a challenging time, as we had to balance exam preparation, academic projects, and rehearsals.

It was through those pressures that I gained some of my most valuable experiences – moments of joy, laughter, and lessons I still carry with me today. We planned together, divided responsibilities, managed our time, and worked collaboratively toward a shared goal. Through this, I learned how to organize an event in a structured and effective way, while truly appreciating teamwork and the support from teachers and friends at WASS.

What impressed me most was the environment, where I was always listened to, supported, and guided every step of the way. The open and friendly atmosphere motivated me to explore different fields, while my peers were always active, approachable, and willing to help one another.

Looking back on my time at WASS, I feel grateful for being encouraged to explore and pursue what I’m passionate about. The wide range of academic and extracurricular activities helped me better understand my strengths and develop myself both independently and as part of a team.

With the foundation built at WASS, I have become more confident, willing to express my thoughts, and ready to step out of my comfort zone to embrace new challenges in the dynamic city of New York.”

Thien An’s story shows that growth is not defined by a single turning point, but by the accumulation of small, meaningful experiences over time. These moments become a strong foundation, empowering WASSers to move forward with confidence, embrace new horizons, and shape their own unique paths.
