The WASS Kindergarten program is a combination of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training program and the Western Australian curriculum framework, which ensures a balance between lessons and play time based on age, year level and physiological age.
The program focuses on personal perfection and social skills, as well as the knowledge, language and numeracy skills based on the five learning outcomes of the Western Australian Kindergarten program.
At WASS, each student is considered a unique individual with different personalities and characteristics, so the curriculum is designed to encourage students to constantly learn and feel the world around them in a safe environment where children are supported to form their own personalities. In addition, the program also focuses on developing and maintaining friendships. Through exploring their feelings and emotions, students will develop their self-control, creativity, politeness, respect, and interest in the surrounding community.
5 LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES
OF THE KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM
THE CONTENTS OF TEACHING IMPLEMENTATION INCLUDE
- Vietnamese linguistics – listen, speak and become familiar with reading and writing.
- Mathematics – practice counting, selection, classification and measurement.
- Music and movement – play with songs and fingers, timbre perception and rhythm through musical instruments and percussion.
- Develop physical activities: Through exercises to develop muscle groups, help students become familiar with basic martial movements (vovinam) and swimming.
WESTERN AUSTRALIAN PROGRAM
- The English program is developed through three content groups: language, literature and literacy. This balanced and integrated curriculum and learning program focuses on developing children’s knowledge, understanding, listening, reading, writing and creativity skills.
- In the pre-school English program, students focus on developing their ability to communicate with people around them and with their parents, teachers and friends.
- Students learn to listen, observe, speak, and write by using simple vocabulary to describe different contexts with the main purpose of entertainment, as well as information.
- Students will learn how to create imaginative stories, informative and persuasive texts with simple vocabulary that includes pictures, short statements, singing, reading poetry and storytelling.
- Students demonstrate understanding, proficiency, problem-solving skills and reasoning in mathematical content based on three area: numbers and algebra; probability and statistics; measurement and geometry.
- Teachers build aspects of Mathematics through language. At this level, students will learn to:
- Connect names, numbers and collections for numerals up to 10.
- Identify different types of shapes.
- Counting numbers in strings, constructing models and comparing order and length of objects.
- Problem solving includes using materials to model problems such as addition and subtraction.
- Reasoning includes explaining numerical comparisons, creating patterns and explaining processes for indirect comparison of lengths.
- Science:Includes knowledge and understanding of the world. Teachers build their skills in recognising the world around them, using language that describes things, simple phenomena that develop essential vocabulary and skills through experiences from learning, through habits, activities during school hours as well as through cooperation with parents.
An average class has between 15 and 20 children of the same age group. In each class, there is 1 homeroom teacher, 1 nanny together with teaching assistants and foreign teachers to best support the children.
